June 2021Why Green River, WY is a Great Place to Live
Posted: December, 13, 2025
“Why should I live in Green River, Wyoming? The river isn’t even green!”
As signs around the city say, you can “Fish it, Float it, Live it.”
The river may not be green, but the green belt bordering it is a wonderful walking path that is easily accessed from most parts of the city. My dog usually insists on walking me on the well-maintained path every morning. Several access points take you right along the river, and certain seasons can give you a glimpse of eagles, hawks, geese, pelicans, and herons. Green River is conveniently located between the trona mines and that employ many in our area, and Rock Springs; where we do most of our shopping and enjoy a game or show at WWCC or catch artists at the Broadway Theater.
What else is there to do in Green River? It won’t take you too long to find something!

No- the river isn’t green, but when the salmon are running, it does become a fascinating color of red. Whether you’re casting a line for trout or kokanee salmon or launching from Expedition Island to float the same storied waters once explored by John Wesley Powell, the river becomes an unforgettable part of daily life here in Green River, Wyoming.
